In recent years, the economical and political realities of Venezuela has left many reconsidering the capacities and potential of the domestic space, challenging its most traditional programs and forms into an eclectic configuration of complex forms of living. the social and spatial typologies of the contemporary upper-class home rarely allow for some of these more improvised and organic programs to take form. Introducing concepts like multigenerational co-living, and customer-oriented businesses sharing the domestic space, has been an added challenge to the realities of designing in this new era. I had to question the traditional domestic spatial configurations and create a more permeable envelope in which all these new realities could co-exist. Examining the layers of privacy in each area was one of the first explorations when designing the house. Proposing how to allow for all the different programs to exist without compromising the core value of what is expected from a home: privacy, stability, security, shelter, ownership. Each space had to fulfill its independent use and at the same time be an articulator in the totality of the house. Starting with a rectangular core for the main areas, the strategy was to branch out the more social and shared spaces to have independence and privacy while staying connected to the house, and visually separate them by patios that enhance the transitions of the here and there occurring throughout the walk around. The orientation of the main core was guided by the intention to have the social and bedroom areas oriented towards the north in an attempt to take advantage of the light and the views towards the Avila.
